The Lake Loop
This is one of Trinidad’s classic routes, taking you along The Highway of Legends (which has a nice shoulder most of the way) past Cokedale.
The county recently paved an awesome gravel section from the highway to the Long’s Canyon entrance of the State Park, but it’s still a nice ride. You’ll turn left at Madrid Bridge, tackling a solid climb before descending down to Trinidad Lake State Park. This secluded hamlet offers great wildlife viewing.
Once you reach the South Shore trail, you’ll have some rolling hills above the lake that will take you to the south shore campground. Finally, you’ll finish on CR 20.8, one of our favorite gravel segments close to town.
